Three trade-worthy tackles for the Philadelphia Eagles

One expert believes the Eagles will trade up in the 2024 NFL Draft. Another believes they want an offensive tackle. We believe both could be true.

Given general manager Howie Roseman’s dismal record with late first-round picks, moving up from the 22nd spot makes sense and according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles have contacted other teams to gauge interest in a trade.

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer identifies the offensive tackle position as the team’s top priority.

"The position I’ve heard most consistently assigned to the Eagles is offensive tackle," Breer notes. “With the group of tackles in this year’s class so highly regarded, though, it’s unclear whether the right one for Philly makes it to 22."

With that in mind, here’s three spots and three tackles the team should consider.

No. 4 pick: Joe Alt (OT) Notre Dame

The Arizona Cardinals currently hold the No. 4 selection but are willing to trade the pick by all accounts. It could take as many as three first-round picks to get there but if the Eagles are serious, a player like Alt could be worth the price.

PFF rates Alt as the best tackle prospect in this year’s draft. The six-foot-nine, 321-pound team captain was a unanimous First-Team All-American in 2023 and started all 13 games at left tackle in 2022.

Alt played offensive tackle and tight end in high school and did the same for Notre Dame as a true freshman in 2021. Lane Johnson, the Eagles five-time Pro Bowl right tackle, is also a converted tight end. He was drafted fourth-overall in 2013 and would be the perfect mentor for a talented player like Alt.

No. 9 pick: Taliese Fuaga (OT) Oregon State

Are the Bears really looking to pay a pair of top-10 picks or would they like to add even more picks with a trade? If it’s the latter, Philadelphia could pick ninth for the second-straight year and bring in Fuaga.

The 6-foot-6, 324-pound former Beaver played in 39 games for Oregon State, the last 25 at right tackle. Last year, he allowed just 12 quarterback hurries, two quarterback hits and zero sacks in 700 snaps.

Pro Football Focus calls Fuaga, “the kind of (butt)-kicker every NFL team wants in the trenches” and ranks him as the second-best tackle in this year’s draft.

No. 12 pick: JC Latham (OT) Alabama

Roseman loves SEC players and Latham could be on his radar if the Broncos look to trade the No. 12 pick. The 6-foot-6, 342-pound tackle came to Alabama as a five-star recruit and saw action in 14 games as a freshman. He started every game at right tackle for the next two years, earning first-team All-SEC honors in 2023.

Latham missed seven games with a wrist injury last season but showed no ill-effects at the NFL Scouting Combine. With right guard Cam Jurgens moving to center after Jason Kelce’s retirement, Latham could spend a year or two at guard until he’s ready to take over for Johnson.
