Top 10 Free Agency Signings: Where Does Commanders' Luvu Land?
Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Commanders entered free agency with a significant salary cap war chest and used it to acquire a host of players to solidify the roster.

Bobby Wagner, Frankie Luvu, Zach Ertz, Dorance Armstrong, Dante Fowler Jr., Tyler Biadasz, Nick Allegretti, Austin Ekeler, Brandon McManus, Tyler Ott, and Marcus Mariota were all signed as the new regime under Josh Harris got off to a good start.

The signing of Carolina Panthers linebacker Luvu to help Joe Whitt Jr.'s defense could perhaps prove to be the shrewdest move of all, as he could form a formidable tandem with Wagner.

As such, the move to sign Luvu has made the top 10 free agency signings this offseason, according to CBS Sports.

"Bobby Wagner is the bigger name joining new coach Dan Quinn's defense in Washington, but Luvu has the makeup of a real building block," CBS Sports writes. "The former Carolina Panthers standout is going on 28 but appears to be just entering his prime, emerging as a fast, physical, downhill pocket disruptor. He's got the potential to be a tone-setter for a franchise in transition."

Coming off a superb year that saw him grab 5.5 sacks, a career-high in tackles (125), 11 quarterback hits, and 10 tackles for loss, Luvu is a machine.

With his ability against the run, Luvu could impact the Commanders' defense quickly as he uses his high football IQ to diagnose problems and then uses his impressive speed to end a play before it gets a chance to develop.

Washington gave up the fifth-most rushing yards per game last season (126.7) while allowing 4.5 yards per carry - Luvu could help shrink those numbers.

While he isn't a big, flashy name, he could prove to be one of the signings of the offseason for the Commanders and, as CBS points out, could be a building block for Whitt Jr. and Dan Quinn going forward.

Still only 27, Luvu is entering his prime in the NFL, and the Commanders are looking to reap the benefits of his physicality and ability in the run game.

A top-10 free agent signing this offseason? Right now, it's hard to argue.
